What is the Cult of Nyll?
The Cult of Nyll is not a religion.
It is not an actual cult.
It is a gaming community wrapped in dumb, theatrical, unnecessary seriousness.
Our obsession? Retro horror games.
No robes are required. (Though we do not discourage them.)
Formed around my livestreams and YouTube content, the Cult is a gathering of viewers, moderators, friends, and long-suffering witnesses who have chosen to treat technical issues, jump scares, and accidental nonsense as sacred events.
I call it a cult because "community" felt too normal.
And normal has never been the point.
No sacrifices are required. Attendance at streams is encouraged but not mandatory.
The deity Vhal'Zoggoth has no known opinions on either matter.
Why "Cult"?
Because everything is better with lore.
Minor stream moments become prophecy.
Crashes become divine tests.
Moderators become holy enforcers.
Embarrassment becomes canon.
The exaggerated, mock-biblical framing transforms ordinary livestream chaos into shared mythology. It gives weight to jokes, permanence to clips, and structure to the absurd.
The seriousness is intentional.
The joke is collaborative.
The Book of Nyll
The Book of Nyll is our ongoing chronicle.
When something notable happens during a stream, like a legendary win, a spectacular failure, or a moment that the chat will never let you forget, it gets canonized as gospel. Written with the gravity of ancient prophecy. Treated with the reverence of holy writ. The event may have lasted thirty seconds. The scripture endures forever.
It records the defining events of the community, from the Coming of the Prophet to moments such as The First Holy Flatulence and other sacred disasters.
It is, in the most sincere way possible, completely ridiculous.
The Codex
If the Book is scripture, the Codex is translation.
The Codex is a living glossary of terms, titles, commandments, and holy events that define the Cult's shared language, from The Blades of Nyll to Thou Shalt Not Alt+F4 (which I've broken a few times, oops).
It exists so that no Cultist, new or veteran, is lost in the lore.
It is an archive, onboarding, and inside joke preservation system.
What it Really Is
Beneath the myth and mock-gravitas, Cult of Nyll is simply:
- A moderated, welcoming stream / YouTube / Discord community
- A shared sense of humor
- Long-running jokes treated with dramatic importance
- Collaborative storytelling built from live chaos
No robes required.
Participation optional.
Canon inevitable.
